NPCs! Quests! Everything's Updated!


Greetings Adventurers!

What's New

  • Increased Viewport Frame Rate.
    • A bit technical, but I've moved the viewport rendering code to a webworker, now it no longer blocks the user interface and draws the world at a much higher frame rate.
  • Non Player Characters (NPCs) that are lost in the dungeon and need rescue.
    • Quests!  There are several NPCs that are happy to help you out, but first, you need to haul them out of the dungeon.  Each one depends on the rescue of the previous, and each will grant a boon to you that will assist you in your quest for the amulet.
  • NPCs that follow you around and help you fight.
    • Once rescued, you can higher or release NPCs at the Tavern.  They will follow you around the dungeon and attack whatever you attack.  They also block monsters from approaching you.  Some may even use magic to help you out.
  • Improvements to save game.
  • Difficulty balancing.

Quite a bit of work went into adding NPCs and the associated quests.    I hope everyone enjoys them.

What's Next

I'm going to spend the next couple of months animating everything.   Since I'm lacking any artist, it's either write code or draw pictures.  I've been writing code and feel like the game is where I'd like it to be for it's current level of complexity.  That really just leaves the one glaring omission from the game.  That being, animation in the monsters and other elements as you move through the dungeon.    I want to see the rat bite at you when it attacks.  I want to watch the bat flap its wings as it moves through the dungeon.  I want to see the chest open.

I also plan on adding a few more sound effects, such as walking noises and monster attack noises.
